18-year-old Lebogang Phiri became very popular with Brondby towards the end of the last season – scoring goals to keep his side in the top flight.

He originally joined the Brondby IF’s U19 side on 8 February this year through BidVest Wits’ Youth Development programme. He soon made waves, and is now joining the Danish side of the club. According to Sowetan Live, Phiri told reporters that his future is now in place, and that he also will have time to focus on football and becoming a better player.

“Last season’s finish was great for me, but for the new season I will keep my feet firmly on the ground and work even harder than before” said Phiri of his goals. He humbly thanked his teammates for treating him like a seasoned professional as apposed to just another young boy.

The Joburg-born youngster was complimented by Brondby’s outgoing sporting director, Ole Bjur for having a “level head” and “football intelligence”.
