Young people love to have fun after the stresses of school and life are taken care of. There’s no better way to unwind and let loose with good music and good friends, than with the youngsters of Hood vs Burbs, a party started by a group of young friends from Protea North, Soweto who go by the name Kronic empire.
This crew started the event with an idea on paper, after seeing a gap in the market for such a gig. The whole idea was to have events for local youngsters so they don’t have to travel out of the township to have fun.
The first event held in April 2010 was such a huge success that they decided to have more in different parts of Soweto, gaining new experiences and recognition with each event. Within a year of grinding and ‘hustling’ they had people by the likes of AKA, Khuli Chana, Rulf Gum and many other DJs and artists performing and playing at their events.
What’s also great about this crew of young entrepreneurs is that they also give platform for other young artists to get recognition and exposure. Expectations are high as they going into their second anniversary event, on the 14th of December, at the Sowetan venue Chaf Pozi. They promise it’s going to be one for the books!
