Rouge, rapper and brand ambassador

Pretorian rapper Rouge cemented her spot in South African music industry in 2014 with her debut single, “Party”.  The 24-year-old has also worked alongside artists like Reason, AKA and Nomuzi, who she featured on the single, “Mbongo-Zaka”.  She’s also worked with brands like Adidas and, most recently, Levi’s to promote a new line of skinny jeans. MAC South Africa also announced that the edgy rapper will be teaming up with them for the launch of their new “Shadescents Ruby Woo” lipstick range. – Carlos Ncube

Thandi Ntuli, jazz pianist 

Thandi Ntuli (29) is a jazz pianist, composer and vocalist from Pretoria who has been playing since she was four.  She studied at the UCT Music School. She has worked with the likes of  Lwanda Gogwana, The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and Jimmy Dludlu. She was part of a seven-piece female band produced by multi-award-winning, singer-songwriter Thandiswa Mazwai. Her debut album, The Offering, got a 2014 Metro FM Awards nomination for Best Urban Jazz. She’s performed locally and internationally at events like the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz in Joburg as well as the Calabar International Jazz Festival in Nigeria. She is due to perform at the International Jazz Extravaganza (IJE) in Durban this June, and this week released a video called “Cosmic Light.“– Precious Mishombo

Wazi M Kunene, poet, storyteller and musician

Wazi Kunene (24) is a poet, author, musician and actress. She was born in Pietermaritzburg, and got her BA degree at Rhodes University. She is one of the administrators of one of South Africa’s leading poetry houses, Current State of Poetry. She’s written children’s books for Oxford University Press SA, and has published an anthology titled The Birth of Reject. She has also released an EP titled Caged Heart. Wazi is one of the featured storytellers for Kwesukela Storytelling Academy, and a part of the organising team for Ram Jam, a monthly jam session featuring various artists from musicians, poets and storytellers. – Aziwe Rayi

Hlomela Bucwa, member of Parliament 

The 24-year-old from Port Elizabeth is the youngest member of the South African parliament. Hlomela is a former Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University(NMMU) SRC president and a bold leader. She is a final year law student at the same university. The DA MP says she studied law because she has always wanted to fight for the rights of people, especially young people. Her recent speech in parliament, on the failure by the government to improve the lives of young people, had us sitting up. I mean who can forget the iconic line: “Let us tread softly because we tread on the dreams of a lost generation”? Yasss, girl.– Seithati Sengoatsi

Moyin Oluruntoba, YouTube sensation 

Moyin Oluruntoba is a Nigerian-born, Cape Town-based YouTube sensation. In 2016, she was named a rising star by FAIRLADY. A marketing graduate, she founded and started presenting her online channel, The A1, two years ago. The channel, with over 1 million views, focuses on youth culture and entertainment, as well as African celebrity and pop culture news. The content is not only funny but also honest and engaging. Oloruntoba says she aims for her channel to be the go-to place for African entertainment and pop culture news. – Nompumelelo Makhakha

Tumelo Mothotoane, broadcaster

Tumelo Mothotoane (27) became the youngest news anchor to join the SABC in 2011.  Her TV career started as a presenter on a youth empowerment show on Soweto TV. Tumelo also hosted Sunday Live and One Day Leader on SABC 1. In 2016, she left South Africa to join Russia Today as an international news correspondent. She is back in South Africa, co-hosting a new current affairs show on SABC1 called Daily Thetha which airs every weekday morning. – Mihlali Ntsabo 

Gabisile Motuba, jazz vocalist 

Gabisile “Gabi” Motuba (24) is a jazz artist and songwriter who has been singing since primary school. The TUT graduate has worked with the likes of Tumi Mogorosi, Nduduzo Makhathini, Malcolm Jiyane, Mthunzi Mvubu, to name a few. In 2016, she released a debut album Sanctum Sanctorium. Her sound is smooth jazz, with a down tempo texture that is so relaxing on the ear. She has the kind of sound you associate with a chilled Sunday afternoon, with a glass of a whisky in hand and maybe a cigar, if that’s how you roll. – Buntu Mgwelo

Tracy Ndlovu, designer 

Tracy Ndlovu (32) was born in Bulawayo, and is the co-owner of Pretoria-based fashion label, Shona Accra. The label specialises in everyday wear, shoes, bags and accessories in bold prints that celebrate the continent’s diversity. Celebrities like Black Coffee, Bonang Matheba and Monique Bingham have been seen rocking her clothing. The label auditioned for the Soweto Fashion Week in 2014, and then got the opportunity to showcase their fashion, at the same event which also marked their official South African launch. – Athenkosi Guntu
