After hosting a successful festival in Cape Town and Joburg, we looked at some of the points that surfaced in the numerous discussions and realized that one topic stands out – Youth Unemployment. As part of our ongoing debate series we are inviting members of parliament, party representatives and leading political figures to have open and robust conversations with you, yes you!

Ever feel like all politicians (let’s call them “Party People”) ever do is fight in parliament, campaign for your votes when it’s election time and seek every opportunity to name and shame their opponents? If you want direct answers to tough questions then the “Party People” series is tailor-made for you.

If it feel like your concerns fall on deaf ears then this is an opportunity for you to make your voice heard because it matters. We will focus on one party per debate, for this first one we’re going with the official opposition party, the Democratic Alliance. The idea is to create a feedback loop that allows young people to regularly engage with MPs and elected representatives, to explain policy in more depth and to be held accountable on whether they are actually delivering.

The DA’s claim:

“The DA is the most diverse and dynamic party in South Africa. We’re the only party to have grown in every election since 1994. But, more importantly, we’re the only party with a credible, proven plan to create real jobs. Where we govern, we have delivered the country’s best performance scores in education, health, service delivery and clean governance. Everything we do is underpinned by one goal: to fight poverty and create jobs by growing the economy.“

How dynamic has the DA been in combating youth unemployment? Want to hear more about their “credible, proven plan to create real jobs“?

Join us as we launch our first VIP Debate Club: Party People Edition on July 17th with Mr Zakhele Mbhele from the Democratic Alliance.
