One of the worst fires Cape Town has ever seen ravaged through an informal settlement in Imizamo Yethu leaving three people dead about 15 000 people homeless.
Nearly a month after the fire, Project Demo visited residents in Mandela Park to find out how they are picking up the pieces of their lives together.
Many of the residents are still living in temporary tents where they complain of not having enough to eat as well as being scared of contracting illnesses from living in such close proximity to each other.
“I would like that they build better houses for the people than the ones they are building now” says resident, Sihle Ngqengqa, as he watches The City of Cape Town replace the burnt shacks with shiny new ones.
