No. 5 RocoMamas (Burgers, Multiple Locations)

RocoMamas has been around for a while now and the DIY menus and wooden benches have filled malls and complexes countrywide. You may know of their existence but did you know that you can get a meal for under R100 per person? The DIY menu holds all the power. The cheapest burger meal is under R50. RocoMamas’ succulent patties cater to all  with chicken, beef, vegetarian or vegan. The presentation gets the stamp of approval for Instagram. So if you’re looking for a good burger joint, this is it.

No. 4 Little Addis Cafe (Ethiopian, Maboneng Precinct)

Ready to dig in with your hands? Little Addis Cafe offers East African food, consisting of a large round sour bread made from rice and cake flour . The ‘injera’ as it is called, is a base that is picked and rolled up to eat with portions of sides. Meat; in the form of lamb, chicken or beef curry called ‘Wat’ and vegetables, with a unique spicy butter on the base. They also have a vegan meal called the Beyaynetu that serves an assortment of vegetables. This meal goes for a little under R100. The waiters, in true African fashion, help you wash your hands whilst dressed in Ethiopian clothing and bits of Ethiopian decor are draped all over the restaurant.

No. 3 Soul Souvlaki (Greek, Multiple Locations)

Soul Souvlaki is a container store that offers Greek street cuisine. Their refurbished space, at a garage in Craighall uniquely incorporates recycled furniture as part of their decor. Thus utilising imperfect settings to bring out their identity. You can get a biftaki in a pita for R53, or lamb in a pita for R64.

No.2 Salsa Mexican Grill (Multiple locations)

Salsa Mexican Grill is a modern Mexican eatery that offers you the freedom to create your own adventure. Using the freshest ingredients and healthy alternatives, their meals are treated as a “fiesta”. You can get a Chilanga Taco or a chicken Burrito for under R100 per person. If you are feeling particularly spirited, you can ask for a Sombrero and embrace your inner Speedy Gonzales.

In addition, you are allowed to bring your own drinks. It is important to note that with this restaurant, you may often find yourself on the other side of the R100.
