There is never bad weather, just a bad outfit.
We are officially eye to eye with winter, which most people perceive as a dull season because of colder weathers, shorter and darker days, fast-paced spreading of flu and cluelessness on what to wear. People often worry about looking stylish in winter while keeping warm, because not only psychologically but biology says being warm is a form of well-being caused by a boost in endorphins. Looking good also contributes to one’s well-being, as its widely known that when you look good, you feel good. With all this being said, we have put together 5 staple items to survive winter.
Layering made it to the trend list again this year, and we have curated this top 5 with that in mind:
Classic/Statement Coat
We all need at least one coat in our wardrobe, whether its a statement, classic or gingham print trench coat. The coat more often than not in winter, will be the highlight of your look and also the first outer layer between you and the cold weather. The coat is where all your layers are hidden, nicely tucked in and worn with a lot of your wardrobe items. Invest in a versatile coat that will keep you warm for many winters to come.
Knitwear
This is most definitely a no brainer, and our grandmothers have been trying to look out for us since those knitted baby grows and woollen jerseys they made us wear to pre-school by force in winter. Thick wool or chunky cashmere sweaters will most certainly keep you feeling toasty while looking stylish. Sweaters can be dressed up or down easily, pop a collared shirt under the sweater and protrude the collar, or simply work it with layering under a contrasting coat or jacket. They can also be worn with skinny jeans and trousers and if you’re feeling brave with leather pants.
Boots
Whether you’re a thigh-high, cowgirl or blocked heel boot kind of girl, we recommend that you keep a pair or three of boots in your wardrobe. For the gents if you’re not a happy socks kind of guy and feel strongly about exposing your ankles in winter, keep a pair of ankle or desert boots in your wardrobe. For both guys and girls, boots can be worn formally or casually. Pick your style and make sure you get a pair to keep your toes surviving for the next few months.
Skinny Jeans
Yes, skinny jeans are a must-have all winter long, as we spoke about layering and this stream-lined garment is best for just that. The nice thing about skinny jeans is that they can be tucked into your boots ladies and gents can just do a small fold above the ankle boot. Keep a single toned pair in your closet to switch up your looks.
Accessories
Seal your look with a choice of your favourite accessory, but make sure it’s one that will add to keeping you warm and being on trend. Think about your neck, ears, and hands. There are some accessories that we’ve seen on the 2019 winter trends list such as animal printed faux fur bucket hats, cable knit beanies, stylish berets, statement earrings, belt bags to wear over your oversized sweater, and stylish printed gloves and scarves.
