Now in part two, we get the opinion from two experts — a medical doctor and a drug counselor and a young medical cannabis user about the possible pros and cons of legalising medicinal cannabis.

Many young people in South Africa make use of illegal cannabis for medical purposes.

Cannabis has been used for centuries. It’s been used longer for medicinal use than for recreational use.  The first recorded use for medicinal purposes was in India between 1100 – 1700 BC.

When cannabis was first brought to the UK, Queen Victoria smoked it to relieve her of menstrual cramps during the 1890s.

The economy could get a boost by legalising cannabis for medical use. Through taxation and regulation, cannabis grew to be a roughly $25 billion industry. Money that otherwise would’ve gone to illegal drug dealers. Yet, criminal activities like the falsifying prescriptions or the selling of cannabis could lead to bigger social problems.
