The news – the past couple of days – has been dominated by the Guptas. Ever ask yourself who these people are and whats the big hu-ha about them? Badume ngani eintlek?
Who are the Guptas?
The Guptas are a billionaire indian family with strong business ties to South Africa. The three Gupta brothers, Ajay, Atul and Rajesh, arrived in SA in the nineties and established strong business and political ties upon their arrival. They own one of South Africa’s largest distributors of computers Sahara holdings (with a turnover of approximately R1 billion a year), Oakbay investements which operates a range of businesses related to mining and recently own TNA media which runs the New Age newspaper. The Guptas are said to be closely affiliated to the South African president Mr Jacob Zuma and are said to be able to summon powerful government officials to their mansions with ease. Duduzane Zuma, eldest son of our dear president is a close friend and business partner to the Guptas.
The auspicious Gupta wedding:
Social media was buzzing on Tuesday when news arose that the Guptas landed their private aircraft in Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria. The plane housed guests from India that were attending the wedding of 23 year old Vega Gupta to India born Aakash Jahajgarhia in Sun City resort.
No one seems to know who authorised this landing as fingers are being pointed everywhere. The SACP and Cosatu have condemned the act saying it has compromised South African security and its an abuse of government resources. The Guptas claimed the High Commission of India submitted an application to use the base, which went through all the appropriate channels.
With that much Gupta-Gwaap in the bank, the Guptas seem to be getting away with a lot in SA. All I’m saying is I want the Guptaz to adopt me, ohk!
