Gardens Commercial High School underground parking turned into some form of sneaker gallery on Saturday May 30 as sneakerheads gathered to trade their kicks. The recurring event, The Sneaker Exchange Cape Town is hosted by Lost Property, a company that specialises in sourcing limited edition products to the world.
Heads traded new and second-hand sneakers of all colours and makes. Among the traders who where there, were some familiar names in South African sneaker culture such as Zaid Osman, MKay Frash, Bubble Koppe and Lord Veezus. One highlight for me was seeing artist, illustrator and sculptor Dada Khanyisa, who came with a different perspective to the event and painted a sneaker on the spot.
Entertainment came from Cape Town rappers Uno July and BoolZ. DJ Eazy handled the decks as heads went about their trade. Overall, it was an interesting fresh event that should happen at least more frequently, all in the name of saving money and getting fresh kicks.
