REVIEW: SkyRoomLive.com featuring PH Fat and Cash Time Fam (Saturday 11 May 2013)

Saturday evening saw the Live team make their way to SkyRoomLive.com to witness some entertaining musical action. The mood was set early on. The place is well crafted with chilled décor that sets an ambient mood. The rooftop experience certainly makes you fall in love with Johannesburg, especially as a first time visitor to SkyRoomLive.com.

We arrived in time to catch the opening act, Cash Time Fam. They got the crowd warmed up, vital on such a cold night. The rappers performed a few of their more famous songs, hyping the crowd in an intimate musical setting. But it wasn’t long before the main star, Cape Town’s P.H.fat, arrived. The crowd had been eagerly anticipating their arrival, and the band did not disappoint.

Their set was filled with a combination of  tracks ranging from Dubstep inspired beats, to songs containing classic hip hop personified lyrics. The crowd reacted very well to the lyrical content, laughing at some of the catchy and witty punch lines that the band boasts in their cleverly written songs.

P.H.fat is an excellent live act. When performing, they capture the audience’s attention with strong and emphatic stage presence. As well as that, they managed to fill in the gaps between songs with humorous stories, further solidifying the connection between crowd and performer.

They looked comfortable on stage, dressed casually, but still stylishly enough to be taken seriously as a performing act. Their casual and friendly nature extended beyond the stage with the performers more than happy to take the time out to answer a few questions from Live.
