Lead singer of the UK band The Noisettes, Shingai Shoniwa, graced the Puma Social Club in Braamfontein wit her stylish presence last Friday. She made a grand entrance with a colourful umbrella and a bronze dress with layers of African fabric at the bottom.

Her performance kick-started before midnight just as the crowd was about to give up on the party. Fortunately, the photo booth kept everyone entertained until Shingai’s much-awaited performance. She also performed the popular Dennis Ferrer house single, Hey Hey, on which she did vocals. Her infectious dance moves had everyone dancing out of control. The band is known of their genreless music which switches from pop, rock ‘n roll to mellow soulful sounds. “Maybe the Noisettes don’t want to be put in a little box. Maybe the Noisettes don’t want to have a genre, ” she said in an interview before her performance.

Shingai, whose parents are originally from Zimbabwe, will be performing at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA 2013) in Zimbabwe, which ends this Sunday the 5th of May. Be sure to get yourself a ticket if you’re in Zimbabwe.

This performance was made possible by the British Council http://www.britishcouncil.org.za/

Tinashe Venge sat down with Shingai earlier in the week. Read the interview.
