I recently had the opportunity to attend the launch of Brand South Africa’s new 13 part Play Your Part TV Series, which debuts on SABC2 on Sunday 15 June 2014, at the Market Theatre In the newly named John Kani auditorium in Johannesburg.
Play Your Part is a movement that was launched in 2010 with the aim to acknowledge South Africans that are playing a great part in shaping and building South Africa. The show also aims to inspire South Africans to be active and positively contribute in their community.
Kabelo “BugaLuv” Mabalane, who will be the host of the show was also in attendance. I caught up with him and he had the following to say “We are hoping to encourage active citizenship, I spent more than 30 minutes with Mama Sibongile Mkhabela, who heads up the Nelson Mandela children’s fund and I was inspired to run the comrades marathon and raise awareness for them”.
Kabelo believes people watching Play Your Part will see ordinary people like themselves who are doing great things and that they too will be inspired to do something positive in their community. He also told the audience how priviledged he feels about hosting ‘Play Your Part’ because he believes that “it is perfectly timed especially since we are celebrating twenty years of democracy in our country”.
“Here at home our job is to get people to buy into this country, that is what this is about, telling the story of this country as objectively as you can. Contributing towards making this country into a great country that it can be. Our vision is that you should be able to play your part in saying ‘this is what our country stands for and this is what we need to do to get this country to where it should be”, says Brand South Africa CEO Miller Matola.
I am definitely inspired to play a part in my community, are you? follow me and let me know @jeff_hound
