The Foreign Exchange is an American based music duo who met rather by chance on a music site Okayplayer.com in 2002. The group is made up of Phonte who is a rapper, singer, and songwriter, and Holland native Nicolay who handles the production and also offers some vocals. Their first album Connected was released in 2004 and came into being rather unconventionally. It was made up of songs the two exchanged on Instant Messenger until they had enough material for an album without having ever spoken or seen each other. In 2008, they released their second album, Leave it All Behind which was very different in its musicality from their debut. This time around Phonte sang more and Nicolay included beats that were jazz and soul-influenced.
By now the duo had carved themselves a following and had established the label Foreign Exchange Music as a medium of releasing their music with artists like Median, Zo! and Jeanne Jolly. 2010 saw the release of their third album, Authenticity with features from their fellow +FE Music label mates. The duo is now touring the world promoting their fourth album titled Love in Flying Colors which was released in 2013. TenUp Concepts is bringing them to Cape Town on the 31st of May at the Zula Sound Bar from 8pm for what promises to be a memorable night. The tickets are available for R270 @ Quicket.co.za and will be R300 at the door. The TenUp Concepts Facebook Page says the group will have a live band which is really exciting.
