A MAN ON A MISSION
Kendrick Lamar has been on & off tour since the release of his major label debut “Good Kid m.A.A.d City” in October 2012. After the album dropped, he embarked on a nationwide tour before hitting the international circuit for the world tour. His Black Hippy cohorts joined him on a 3 month run which saw them perform at 60 shows in 15 countries which included 23 headline concerts, 22 international festivals and 15 US summer festivals from May 5th to August 24th 2013.
After his world tour had concluded, he signed on as a supporting act on Kanye West’s Yeezus tour and performed at 18 of the 29 shows. The tour, which was dubbed a theatrical piece by Kanye, ran for 2 months from October 19th to December 23rd 2013 and also featured A Tribe Called Quest and Pusha T as additional supporting acts.
TOUCHDOWN TO SOUTH AFRICA
Now the date is set for the arrival of the Los Angeles born Compton native to South Africa. Thanks to the good people at Miller SA and Miller Boomtown, who brought us 2 Chainz in 2013, King Kendrick aka K Dot will be bringing his Good Kid m.A.A.d City world tour to three cities in Mzansi, gracing our shores on February 7th at the Wave House in Durban, February 8th at the Johannesburg Stadium in Johannesburg and February 9th at the Belville Velodrome in Cape Town.
Seeing how busy life gets when you’re a 7-time Grammy nominee, Kendrick will stop by the Grammy Awards on January 26th for a performance, alongside Imagine Dragons who will be joining him on stage, and to hopefully pick up a couple of awards before heading down under to join Eminem on his Rapture tour alongside J. Cole in New Zealand on February 15th and Australia on February 19th.
According to Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, the CEO at his record label Top Dawg Entertainment, the rapper who dropped the most popular verse of 2013 has already started working on his sophomore album which is expected to be released during the course of the year. The SA tour will be the perfect opportunity to hear older and more current favourites like “Hiiii Power”, “ADHD”, “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” and “Swimming Pools (Drank)”.
