We take a look at the most streamed artists and albums on Spotify

Summer is finally upon us and this is the dawn of Dezember grooves, braais around the pool and voshos with no worries of going to work tomorrow. As South Africans one thing that has served as an agent of unity, is our anticipation for the song that closes the old year and opens the new one. Whatever will it be? Last year most of us predicted correctly so their were no surprises when Distruction Boyz’ Omunye came on. This year, Spotify suggests that we predict our song of 2018 by looking at the songs that we have jammed to all year.

This year we were begging Kiki to tell us if she loves us, we were fainting all over social media and we were singing in autotune to Fela in Versace. If you were curious to know if your favourite jam is everyone’s favourite (which will help you know if that’s the song of the summer), then we have the answers. Spotify has released a list of this year’s most streamed artists and songs in South Africa for 2018 so far and we have the plug. Here are the songs that were streaming in the headphones of the nation this year.

Drake tops the charts for the most streamed artist in South Africa with his songs God’s Plan, In My Feelings and Nice for What all appearing in the top ten list for most streamed songs. The top three most streamed SA artists, broke down by ‘streamed in South Africa’ and the ‘rest of the world’, are Nasty C, AKA and Jeremy Loops. Shekhinah was at number six, making her the most streamed woman South African artist. DJ Maphorisa claimed the ninth spot, with Fokofpolisiekar at number 10. Here is the complete list:
