Hip hop cats were dressed to the nines and going full retard at the Honchos & Dimes Cara Cara Edition event held at The Loop Nightclub in Cape Town last week Friday. The event boasted headliners including Teargas crewmates, K.O and Ma-E and the DJ lineup was packed with the likes of DJ Cudi, DJ Phil, DJ Sir Vincent, DJ Speedsta and DJ Loyd. Just that alone got me on the edge with excitement to attend the event.

But the excitement soon died out when we (LIVE Mag SA) weren’t allowed to interview both K.O and Ma-E at the event. So what exactly were we there to do? Watch hip hop cats practically scratching their eyes out trying to get a good view of K.O and Ma-E on stage?

The fashion choices were a bit weird. Girls were dressed in their usual “I’m going to paint the town red” outfits made up of six-inch heels, huge gold chains and carrying exquisite handbags. The guys donned their best vintage shirts and chinos. Kanti where were the denim shorts, All Stars, and Samson dungarees? After all, this was the Cara Cara Edition so the kasi fashion vibe should have been evident. Somehow people thought they were attending their matric dance and not a hip hop event.

Everyone was left trying to catch their breath after K.O performed his smash hit “Cara Cara”. The crowd went crazy and showed the organisers over at Honcho just how much Teargas they could handle. The crowd asked for an encore of the new coolkid anthem. President K.O was more than willing to keep his people happy.

The deejays kept the crowd on their toes and singing along to the hottest tracks from yesteryear and current hits creating waves in the music scene. DJs Cudi, Phil, and Sir Vincent opened the event at 21:00 pm before Ma-E and K.O followed with crowd-pleasing performances. DJs Speedsta and Lloyd took to the decks right after the two hip hop stars to keep the crowd on their feet until the early hours of the AM.

The event was well-organised. The artist lineup was tight and the performances were dope. The event reached all the expectations that were created by the hype around it. I am still upset that we could not get an interview with K.O and Ma-E but at least we got a great video of the event (you’re welcome). Check it out below:
