The Cape Town Underground Music festival will take place next week and we will be profiling different artists that will be performing at the event.
Lebo Letsimo a.k.a Lebz – a dubstep DJ and bass player from Khayelitsha, Cape Town is one of the artists on the CTUMF line up. This 25-year-old Cape Town bred has always had a passion for music. His music journey began in 2008. He started off as a house DJ but later realised that his true calling – dubstep.
Lebz described his style as “unique” because he’s one of the few guys from the township that can play drums and bass. He says he would like to mix traditional music with dubstep to form a new sound.
The biggest highlight of his music career is meeting his idol, Skrillex in February last year. He was also featured in his “Try it out” music video. He cites Skrillex as his biggest music inspiration and would love to collaborate with him one day.
When asked what his biggest achievement was, he quickly mentions being named the hyper DJ of the month on Hectic nine 9, a youth TV show on SABC2.
Lebz is currently working on launching his own brand called “Maffin Studios”. He is also preparing for the launch event of his brand that will take place on the 31st of December in Khayelitsha. He also talked about dropping a single compilation album where he will feature various local acts.
He says he’s very excited to perform at the Cape Town Underground Festival and is humbled that he was chosen to be one of the artists that get to perform.
Lebz will be performing next Tuesday on the 7th of October alongside the likes of Semel, Kay Faith, Half Time and Grimehouse just to mention a few.
