For even the most accomplished stylista, the task of editing your interview wardrobe can still be as nerve-wracking as the interview itself.
We’ve asked two industry insiders for their ultimate guide to Interview Chic for youth on a budget. Meet Nicola Cooper of Flux Trends, and Natalie Stoop of eTV.
Nicola Copper, Fashion, Lifestyle and Pop Cultural Senior Trend Analyst at Flux Trends.
You can always update these with the latests trends through accessories for detail or colour. Remember to invest in yourself and your wardrobe, rather save to get that perfect piece and accentuate it with smaller cheaper accessories and trend worthy elements.
Clothes say quite a substantial amount about people; it is a fact that people make up their mind about you without you opening your mouth to speak, which means clothing plays a bit role is assisting your potential employer as to who you are as an individual. So use a good fashion foundation and then play up your own personality and unique style. ”
Natalie Deport Stoop, General Manager for Training and Development at eTV.
“Dressing for success is about more than what you wear – it’s how you wear it. Be neat, iron your clothes, and make sure you look fresh (no heavy partying the night before!). No revealing outfits. Show respect, especially to yourself. If you’re not a suit person, don’t wear one. Hair out of your eyes. Wear subtle perfume, not overbearing like you’ve just left the perfume factory.
Image is important, but not as important as being confident and having a positive and friendly attitude.
On the interview day, arrive fresh. Do not smoke directly before walking in. Be friendly to the receptionist, they have more influence than you think. Tell your interviewer if you are nervous, it will help to break the ice. Manage any nervous twitches by controlling your breathing. Take deep breaths.
The person who wins me over is one who speaks up, asks (relevant) questions and shows respect. Good luck! ”
So there you have it!
