As a lover of local music, this year’s CTEMF line-up almost made me shed a tear of joy. Seeing Driemanskap, Sibot, Okmalumkoolkat, Beat Sampras, Petite Noir made me even more excited. The festival also marks Petite Noir’s first performance in South Africa since his career took off and he blessed stages around the world with his self-invented noir-wave genre.

The Cape Town Electronic Music Festival is showing us that a music festival can work in the inner city. Every February, since 2012, a wide range of electronic music artists, DJs and fans gather at the Grand Parade to celebrate music conjured from mostly computers and fancy small gadgets like drum pads and synthesisers. All kinds of electronic music: hip hop, house, techno, electronica and all strains of bass music.

This year’s line-up is the longest the festival has ever offered. A total of 39 acts will share their sounds over three days from February 5 to 7. It also consists of a good balance of established and up-and-coming acts.

International acts to expect will be Boris Brejcha (Germany), Chloé (France), Ralf Kollmann (Germany), Nightmares On Wax (UK) and Harri & Domenic (UK), among others.

With such a line-up, the tickets will be a bit pricier, so get your hustle on. A weekend pass will set you back R700, while a day ticket goes for R300. You can buy tickets here.
