Our friends over at Canon South Africa have given us the pocket-friendly Canon PowerShot SX600 HS to use over the next 3 months. snapping image galleries to give you a look into the things we do, the things we see, and the things we create. Lerato Madonna Mothopeng has been selected to #CreateWithCanon

In this month’s edition of #CreateWithCanon we look at Advertising and Marketing student Lerato Madonna Mothopeng and how she interprets the transition from Summer to Autumn in this style diary shoot. Apart from being a Digify 3.0 graduate, Lerato also collects and sells vintage fashion apparel. She co-styled this shoot alongside our resident fashion fanatic Tshepo “Sponono Fierce” Mosokotso.

My fashion rule is simple : Ignore the rules.

Autumn is a particularly confusing time of the year. You never whether to wear a light outfit or  a heavy, layered outfit. Truth is in a transitional season like Autumn you can get away with both. I, personally, love creating outfits that have elements from the season that’s ending and the season that’s beginning. Now that Winter is on our doorstep, before we start stocking up on essentials, we first have to survive the transition from summer to winter and these are my must have items for the season.

The Oversized Knit

Lerato: You don’t have to put away your summer shorts just as yet, pair them with stockings and an oversized sweater. It’s a great way to stay warm and fashionable – along with a cool pair of sneakers or creeper sole casual loafer shoes – it’s that simple and you are ready to go.

Tshepo: I agree with Lerato, winter is not only about wearing heavy items, it presents the opportunity to use the art of layering and mismatching. We decided to pair the shorts and leggings with an oversized vintage-inspired knit to give it character and excitement, and it worked.

The Cape Coat

#CreateWithCanon

Lerato: Invest in a good statement coat! A cape coat is one of them but knowing what to wear it with can be a bit tricky, since we are still in the transitional season a pair of white pants coupled with a light summer white shirt will keep the rest of your outfit subtle allowing the statement coat to stand. The outfit is completed with a simple pair of loafers or a pair of heels. Now we’re ready to attend that exciting black tie event or even just going to the office looking fab and sophisticated.

Tshepo: I co-styled Lerato in this enchanting camel coat but she brought it to life with her understanding of mixing colours.

The oversized outerwear

#CreateWithCanon

Lerato: The hit of the 90’s, I recommend that everyone give the oversized outerwear trend a try this autumn. This trend is all about chic silhouettes that take a cue from menswear. Start of with a printed floral old school biker jacket – a timeless piece – that you can wear with almost anything in almost any season and it paired with denim overalls. Overalls are the statement piece version of denim, they keep the outfit edgy and cool.

Tshepo: You know what they say “old school is cool” I love how we managed to pair a quintessential dungaree with a vintage and rare – one of a kind – leather jacket and made it work beautifully. The outfit is very street and super cool for Autumn.

The oversized champagne knit

Lerato: Boyfriend jeans are perfect for this season, not only are they spacious than your skinnies, they are also quite comfortable. Paired with a oversized champagne knit and layered to perfection. It’s not cold enough for outerwear, so to complete this outfit I just drape this cool faux suede & shearling hooded jacket and added some colour with red kicks.

Tshepo: The outfit is all about ease and comfortability. The nude colours of this outfit gave this ensemble a beautiful escape from the bright colours that usually define Summer. The colours are exciting even if they are not bright.

The 80’s track top

#CreateWithCanon

Lerato: The revival of the 80’s inspired look!

Tshepo: The 80’s are back! Inspired by show like “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “The Cosby Show” the 80’s inspired look will always find a way to creep into our wardrobes and gives us a sense of nostalgia. We styled the track top with the black skirt to make it stand out as it deserves to.
