Mary Fitzgerald Square was the place to be on Saturday night to get dirty! Newtown got raided by the best South African artists at a massive Converse Get Dirty party and man did it deliver!
With a spectrum of stages, stalls, walls and sounds, the square morphed into a carnival. An oasis of fun and festivities featuring bumper cars, a wall of music history and a merry go round.
The Jack Purcell stage had DJ’s wheeling the best dance grooves with DJ’s Vetkuk vs Mahoota playing a solid set that moved the house crowd from side to side. Earlier on Musical Chairs had dub step fans (myself included) stepping their heads off and jamming in a trance. The biggest stage, coined The All Stars stage, featured live performances by bands and artists . Jeremy Loops got the ladies vocal and made them forget that it was winter in Johannesburg.
Zebra and Giraffe affirmed why they won the SAMA for the best rock act this year with a world class performance, and not forgetting the intriguing sounds of the rock pop African band BLK JKS, who took over and blew the crowd away.
Converse fans everywhere can certainly say that they threw the party of the season. Did you Get Dirty and experience it for yourself?
