The City of Gold Urban Art Festival, now in its third year of running, kicked off earlier this week in Braamfontein. The festival will feature an exhibition, street art tours, film screenings and large-scale mural projects. According to the organisers Grayscale Concepts, the festival is aimed at “helping the the local street art community grow by establishing Johannesburg as a destination for urban artists from around the world.” Along with local artists, some of the international artists who are attending this festival include Solo One (UK), Herakut (Germany), Revck (USA), Pose (USA) as well as Kid Kreol and Boogie (Reunion Islands). The festival is also hoping to change the public’s negative perceptions of graffiti by highlighting its positive aspects.
