One South African got the surprise of a lifetime.
Her name is Ntombi Zandile Reginah Qumba. She went to African Bank in March this year to apply for a loan to help further her children’s education – and managed to get it. But what she didn’t expect was this…
A lot of successes are as a result of long hours and hard work but a lot also has to do with having the foundation of a basic education.
We came across the incredible story of the African Bank initiative shared on their social media platforms recently. Qumba’s is an inspiring success story that reminds us that learning is priceless and that it’s a basic right that each and every one of us deserves.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case for millions of South Africans due to financial restrictions and other factors that prevent them from being able to further their schooling or tertiary studies.
It’s always quite refreshing to see something like this from a banking institution because banks can be intimidating and – how often do you hear positive stories from banking institutions.
African Bank ran the “win back your loan amount” from March through April this year. In the campaign, those who applied for loans were automatically entered into the competition.
The total loan amount paid out to winners was R250 000. Loans aren’t the most ideal at the best of times, but sometimes you just don’t have a choice. So imagine the surprise of the likes of Qumba and the other winners when they got the phone call to say their loans had been settled? Too awesome.
