Take It To Valhalla Films Gets Lost In The Pain
Over the last few years, YouTube has been one of the platforms that has seen the rise in people managing to turn their side hustles into their main hustles. It has also opened up the wave of opportunity for those who choose to cross over into other creative career fields.
Two such creators are Christ Kakese and Festus Pedro Sebothoma who were brought together by their love and passion for all things film. Collectively known as Take It To Valhalla Films (TITV), this Johannesburg-based duo creates content that covers fashion, fine arts and music events. “We honestly believe that South Africans can do better. That being said, we hope to create fresh content that’s actually interesting,” says Christ.
The two individuals behind TITV took a daring step in the beginning of this year which saw them running their passion project like a business. They took on TITV as their full-time job after quitting their nine-to-fives; a major highlight for them according to Christ.
Teaming up with Nando Tatu, a tattoo artist, they created a YouTube series called, “Skyf Pain” which premiered in the first half of this year. Skyf Pain profiles diverse creatives and entrepreneurs with a shared love for tattoos and piercings.
Nando, who Christ met through mutual friends, opened a store in Newtown approximately two years ago. Throughout season one of the series, TITV explores the Johannesburg tattoo scene.
“The show challenged certain stigmas and views regarding tattooing and people that are tatted on,” said Christ on what his biggest take-away from working on the project was.
Their abilities behind the lens are not just limited to video, as they capture beautiful still moments as well. This is well illustrated on their aesthetically pleasing Instagram page which is the scrapbook version of their YouTube channel.
They use this platform to showcase their trailers and behind-the-scenes moments. In terms of what to look forward to, Christ revealed that TITV will be working on a fashion series while season two of Skyf Pain is also on the cards.
If their YouTube channel is anything to go by, then you really should be excited for what lies ahead for the passionate creators and their refreshing approach to content.
