Bafana Bafana on slippery slope

by: Seboke Bolosha - 19 June 2013

On June 16, South Africa lost to the Ethiopians by 2-1 due to an own goal scored by Bernard Parker Kaizer Chief’s Striker. “I don’t know what to say, it is very sad for me and the team,” he told News24.

South Africans flooded the website with both negative and sympathetic comments, Moabi Matsepa wrote: “16 June 1976 South Africa was mourning; 16 June 2010 South Africa 0-3 Uruguay; 16 June 2013 Ethiopia 2- 1 South Africa, indeed this day is cursed in our history”

But, it turns out that South Africa may have a chance. According to SABC News: “FIFA has launched a probe into three different African Countries which may have field ineligible players during the qualifying campaign”

Ethiopia is one of the countries in question. If found guilty they could lose points and if they lose points South Africa will stand a chance by defeating Botwana.

The disciplinary hearing will take place before any decisions can be made.

South Africa still stand a chance, all we have to do is hold thumbs and play well in September against Botswana.

“So let’s see what happens, but, whatever that result, it won’t affect us unless they get docked points and we win the last game, they draw or lose the last game.” says Coach Gordon Igesund.
