Lerato’s situation is stressful. Having someone you trust leak your nudes is an incredible invasion of your privacy and can leave you feeling incredibly vulnerable.

 If you ever find yourself in a regretful situation online, like Lerato’s, here are helpful steps you should take:

 Keep calm

It may not look like it at this point, but things will be okay. Breathe and take the necessary action.

 Report it

Facebook has a zero tolerance to bullying and sharing nude pictures. They have teams of thousands of people who work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to reports. Reports like Lerato’s would be normally be dealt with within 24 hours. The quicker you bring the post to Facebook’s attention, the quicker the content will be removed.

 To report a photo on Facebook:

  1. Click on the photo to expand it
  2. Hover over the photo and click “Options” at the bottom-right corner
  3. Click “Report Photo”
  4. Select the option that best describes your issue and follow the on-screen instructions until your feedback has been received by Facebook.

 While waiting for Facebook to remove the image, you can remove the tag, if you are tagged in the image. This will ensure that the nude image will not appear on your personal timeline.

 Talk to someone you trust

Whether a friend or a trusted adult, reach out to someone to talk about this situation. Our online lives affect us more than we may think they do. What happens online does not stay online. So share your feelings and how you want to handle the situation; trusted advice is always helpful.
