Live Life Loud by being fresher than fresh this summer

by: Tshepo Mosokotso - 27 October 2015

With the South African Fashion Week Autumn/Winter collection having just shown and still fresh on our minds, it’s clear that individualism and showing your unique style aesthetic is huge currency when it comes to fashion stakes. We simply have to celebrate the qualities that draw us to people who have almost perfected living their lives fully without fear and without being deterred by what society thinks is normal and right.

When preparing this digitorial, we researched these beautiful individuals who are living life loud with their talents, conviction, attitude and the ever-inspiring outlook to life while looking superb in their ensembles.

All eyes, including mine, are waiting to see what these influencers will be wearing as the carefree and spirited summer days slowly become a reality. And the thoughts that creep into my mind always present me with a smile as their style is affordable and can be replicated (or imitated) by their peers, if the latter is not happening already. We called our good friends at Mr Price to use their latest awesome and fun “Live Loud Loud” range to further tell their fashionable stories.

Are you ready for one, fashionable, hot summer?

‘Cause at MRP, they are all about fresh, new styles with unbeatable prices to match. Meet the individuals who simply epitomise the “Live Life Loud” range:

We chose Sisipho Mbombo, a 20-year-old ballerina and Fitness Coach whose outfits are full of wonderful drama, exotic characteristics and a hint of athleisure for easy movement and flexibility to bring the summer wardrobe to life. During the shoot, she would pull some impressive ballerina move or whip out her leg higher out of nowhere and marvel us. Her technique and joie de vivre really made us want to register and attend her classes. Her fashionable and summer steez is all about cute floral playsuits, cheeky denims shorts, gypsy tops, denim dungas and more.

The University of Cape Town (UCT) School of dance and music major says, “choreography became one of my main stream passions as it allows me to have no limits and be as creative as I aspire to be”.

Styling her for this fashion editorial was just fun as she possesses a fashionable attitude and moves which makes clothes come alive. I suspect she will be spotted and snapped by the fashion storytellers wearing hot looks like printed bodycons, cut-out crops and dresses that scream “live life loud” forever.

I imagine her fashionably walking into her class wearing a button-up, A-Line denim skirt, a floral crop top and block heel trucker sandals – a la Alexa Chung and transitioning after class into a glam girl wearing lace-up gladiator wedges for a night out with her girlfriends.

Or, better yet as she is one of the bartenders at LiquidChefs, she could prepare some sexy cocktails for fellow patrons clad in all the summer must-haves from Mr Price.

For our second style inspiration, we picked 22-year-old Live VIP opinionista Lethabo Afrika Bogatsu (check some of her written work here) who has a particular passion for youth and gender politics and has a keen interest in the creative industry. Seventy percent of her fashionable steez has a “borrowed from the boys” inspiration with a retro feel. The trend is not entirely new on the streets, the girls pioneering the look, including Bogatsu will tell you that it is simply about comfort and she pulls it off with great confidence and flair.

When styling her, I wanted to feminise oversize men’s tops and make them look like dresses on her. The idea was also to show women how versatile clothes can be and how you don’t have to wear them “like it says on the box”. Her aesthetic is all about boyfriend jeans, cheeky denim shorts, floor-length dresses and skirts, oversized tops, shirts and sneakers. Her fashion agenda is not about trying to be or look like a boy but simply presenting herself as a versatile style lover who can make any item of clothing exciting, contemporary and bada**.

“I really dislike being called a tomboy. I hate to conform to gender norms and roles. I believe in challenging the status quo in everything, be it what I choose to wear, what I listen to, watch and read or the places I go to.” says Lethabo and that is the attitude that has drawn me to her.”

For guys and some of the girls who love shopping from the men’s department, simply take take your cues from the coast in the summer’s must-have menswear trend – the floral print. You’ll see it on shirts, tees and printed vests. Then, throw on a pair of shorts or coloured chinos and swim styles you’ll wanna live in. If prints aren’t your vibe, rock the clean and crisp look with a plain V-Neck tee.
