According to Dr Zulu, co-founder of the Cape Town sneaker shop Shelflife, being a sneakerhead isn’t all about owning the pairs you like. Admiring the craftsmanship and design of a sneaker makes you a sneaker head.

He was speaking, alongside other sneakerheads, at Zip Zap Circus School in Cape Town, during the Sneaker Exchange Cape Town event on Saturday. Started by another sneaker fiend, Zaid Osman, the event, which has been going on for about two years, in both Jo’burg and Cape Town, sees sneakerheads gathering to trade their pairs.

On Saturday, there was individual trading, and the place was filled with stalls from different brands selling sneakers, caps, t-shirts and hoodies, inside and outside the circus marquee.

Hip-hop artists and deejays such as Nasty C, Reason, Patty Monroe, Stilo Magolide, BoolZ, Youngsta, Uno July, Moozlie, DJ Eazy and more, kept the lovers of sneakers entertained.

Performances that stood out came from BoolZ, Nasty C, Youngsta, Moozlie and Patty Monroe.

Familiar faces in the sneaker scene like Mkay Fresh, Siyabonga Ngwekazi, and more, were there to show face.

Below are pictures from the event.
